I am huge fighting game fan especially when it comes to the Street Fighter series. Many of you know that I compete in tournaments. Not saying I’m a PRO gamer but at least I am in the middle of the bunch. I’ve been competing since 2004 and boy the scene has changed over the period of years. Anyways back to the subject MAD CATZ is a gaming peripheral (I hope I spelled that right) company that I know. Back in the day the company wasn’t as they are now when it came to gaming accessories. Well times have changed and now pretty much I see them controlling the market with RAZER, HORI, and etc. Lets talk about the current hardware they put out to put them on the spot.
I am an avid arcade fight stick collector. I’m probably not the only and I only know what person who has way more than me on this planet. I’m sure you guys know who I’m talking about. Anyways back in the day the market was pretty much controlled by HORI. From what I remember this was back during the PS1 days. I mean so many types I can name from Hori but that would make me go off the subject.
With the release of Street Fighter IV in 2009 Mad Catz joined the market with the STREET FIGHTER IV Tournament Edition Fightstick as well with the standard arcade fight stick. The superior one was obviously the tournament edition stick with the better parts which Japanese. Sanwa parts I have to say. All I gotta say is WOW. I was very amazed when I was able to get a hold of one because in 2009 these were hard to find. Only a limited release here in the US. About a 4 or 5 months they were able to re-release as they making more stock. I remember seeing ebay and craigslist prices which was outrageous at the time. The standard stick was about $70 and the tournament edition stick was at $150 at the time. The prices I saw were like $200-$400! That’s crazy but I have to say I was lucky to obtain one from craigslist which the person sold it for retail price (I got lucky). The other one was when it was re-released which I purchased at FRYS for $150
From a consumer point of view I’m definitely happy with Mad Catz new look. They have definitely upgraded with the new peripheral lines. If you looking for some gaming accessories check them out i’m pretty sure they got what your looking for!
